Heraklion, also known as Candia, is the capital city of the Greek island of Crete. The city serves as a gate to one of the most beautiful Greek islands. Not only does the city offers dozens of things to do, but also at a short drive there are tons of area’s to explore. It could take you literally weeks just to explore all of the area’s surrounding the city of Heraklion. The city has throughout history been ruled over by many foreign empires. This influcense is still present of Crete and defenitely in the capital city of Heraklion. The city center is full of Venetian and Ottoman buildings. Beside the busy city center there are also a lot of very good beaches and hotels nearby Heraklion.
