For the
number 8 we go back to the old town of Rodes. Near the old town you can find
the magnificent palace of the Grand Masters. The palace used to be home to the crusaders
of the knight of Saint John. In 1856 the palace was completely destroyed when a
munition depot exploded near the palace. In the 1930’s the Italians rebuilded
the palace for the former king of Italy. The palace would be made as a summer
residence for king Victor Emmanuel and later for the dictator Mussolini. None
of them have ever used it for their holidays. Within the palace you can find a
display of wonderful artifacts from the Hellenistic time and the time of the knights
of Saint John.
